Pork Yakisoba
Pork Yakisoba is Japanese home cooking, eaten at lunch and dinner. On the plate it is the dish at the centre. Below is what usually sits beside it, what it does and does not contain, and what else to cook once you have made it.
Ingredients
- 1 lb yakisoba noodles
- 1 lb thinly sliced pork belly
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 4 cups green cabbage
- 2 carrots
- 1 onion
- 3 scallions
- 2 tbsp neutral oil
How to cook it
- Loosen the yakisoba noodles under warm water and drain.
- Stir the soy sauce, oyster sauce, ketchup, and sugar together for the sauce.
- Heat the neutral oil in a wok over high heat and cook the pork until browned, about 4 minutes.
- Add the onion, carrots, and cabbage and stir-fry until crisp-tender, about 4 minutes.
- Add the noodles and sauce and toss until hot and coated, about 3 minutes.
- Drizzle with sesame oil, scatter with scallions, and serve.
Serve it with
A Japanese dinner is a plate rather than a single dish. These are the courses that normally sit beside Pork Yakisoba, read from the same composition Dinejot builds a real meal from.

When to cook it
Pork Yakisoba takes about 30 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at lunch and dinner. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
