Spicy Pork Bulgogi
Spicy Pork Bulgogi is Korean home cooking, eaten at dinner. On the plate it is the dish at the centre. Below is what usually sits beside it, what it does and does not contain, and what else to cook once you have made it.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb thinly sliced pork shoulder
- 3 tbsp gochujang
- 1 tbsp gochugaru
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 5 garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp grated ginger
- 2 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 onion
- 4 scallions
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 1 tbsp neutral oil
- 5 cups cooked white rice
How to cook it
- Whisk the gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and sugar into a marinade.
- Toss the sliced pork and onion in the marinade and let sit at least 20 minutes.
- Heat the neutral oil in a large skillet over high heat.
- Spread the pork in a single layer and sear, turning once, until caramelized and cooked through, about 8 minutes.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds and scallions.
- Serve hot over bowls of warm rice.
Serve it with

When to cook it
Spicy Pork Bulgogi takes about 30 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at dinner. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
