Beef Bulgogi

Beef Bulgogi is Korean home cooking, eaten at dinner. On the plate it is the dish at the centre. Below is what usually sits beside it, what it does and does not contain, and what else to cook once you have made it.

30 min Medium Dairy free

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb thinly sliced ribeye
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 Asian pear
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 onion
  • 4 scallions
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 5 cups cooked white rice

How to cook it

  1. Grate the pear and whisk it with the soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and sugar for the marinade.
  2. Toss the sliced beef and onion in the marinade and let sit at least 20 minutes.
  3. Heat the neutral oil in a large skillet or grill pan over high heat.
  4. Sear the beef and onion in batches so they caramelize rather than steam, about 3 minutes per batch.
  5. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and scallions.
  6. Serve hot over bowls of warm rice.

Serve it with

A Korean dinner is a plate rather than a single dish. These are the courses that normally sit beside Beef Bulgogi, read from the same composition Dinejot builds a real meal from.

Safe at your table

Dinejot tracks ten allergens and tags every one of them by hand, so the absences below are as deliberate as the presences. Beef Bulgogi carries gluten, soy, and sesame. It is free of the remaining 7 allergens on that list.

When to cook it

Beef Bulgogi takes about 30 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at dinner. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
