Ingredients

  • 4 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick

How to cook it

  1. Peel, core, and dice the apples into small even pieces so they cook quickly.
  2. Put the apples in a saucepan with the water, sugar, lemon juice, and the cinnamon stick if using.
  3. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the fruit is completely soft.
  4. Remove the cinnamon stick and mash the fruit lightly with a fork, leaving it a little chunky, or blend it smooth if you prefer.
  5. Let it cool slightly and serve warm or chilled, one of the most common everyday desserts on a French table.
