Tuna Noodle Casserole
Tuna Noodle Casserole is American home cooking, eaten at dinner. On the plate it is the dish at the centre. Below is what usually sits beside it, what it does and does not contain, and what else to cook once you have made it.
Ingredients
- 12 oz egg noodles
- 3 5 oz cans canned tuna
- 2 10.5 oz cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1/2 onion
- 1 cup shredded cheddar
- 2 tbsp butter
- 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
How to cook it
- Heat the oven to 375F and butter a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
- Boil the egg noodles in salted water until just shy of tender, about 6 minutes, then drain.
- In a large bowl stir together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, drained tuna, peas, onion, cheddar, salt, and pepper.
- Fold in the noodles until evenly coated, then spread the mixture in the baking dish.
- Melt the butter, toss it with the panko, and scatter the crumbs over the top.
- Bake until bubbling and golden, about 25 minutes, then let stand 5 minutes before serving.

When to cook it
Tuna Noodle Casserole takes about 50 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at dinner. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
