American Goulash
American Goulash is American home cooking, eaten at lunch and dinner. On the plate it is the dish at the centre. Below is what usually sits beside it, what it does and does not contain, and what else to cook once you have made it.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion
- 4 garlic cloves
- 1 green bell pepper
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 15 oz tomato sauce
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 cup shredded cheddar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
How to cook it
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium-high and brown the ground beef, breaking it apart.
- Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper and cook until softened, about 6 minutes, then drain off excess fat.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, Worcestershire, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper and bring to a simmer.
- Add the dry macaroni, cover, and cook over low heat, stirring now and then, until the pasta is tender, about 15 minutes.
- Turn off the heat, stir in the cheddar until melted, and let stand 5 minutes before serving.
Serve it with
A American dinner is a plate rather than a single dish. These are the courses that normally sit beside American Goulash, read from the same composition Dinejot builds a real meal from.

When to cook it
American Goulash takes about 45 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at lunch and dinner. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
