Stuffed Bell Peppers

Stuffed Bell Peppers is American home cooking, eaten at dinner. On the plate it is the dish at the centre. Below is what usually sits beside it, what it does and does not contain, and what else to cook once you have made it.

55 min Medium Gluten free

Ingredients

  • 4 large bell peppers
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 14 oz diced tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

How to cook it

  1. Heat the oven to 375F and slice the tops off the bell peppers, removing the seeds.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet and brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic, about 7 minutes, then drain.
  3. Stir in the cooked rice, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, half the cheddar, salt, and pepper.
  4. Stand the peppers upright in a baking dish and fill them with the beef mixture.
  5. Add a splash of water to the dish, cover with foil, and bake 30 minutes.
  6. Uncover, top with the remaining cheddar, and bake until melted, about 10 minutes more.

Stuffed Bell Peppers takes about 55 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at dinner. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
