Dutch Baby Pancake

Dutch Baby Pancake is American home cooking, eaten at breakfast. On the plate it is the dish at the centre. Below is what usually sits beside it, what it does and does not contain, and what else to cook once you have made it.

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (alcohol-free)

How to cook it

  1. Heat the oven to 425F with a large oven-safe skillet inside.
  2. Blend the eggs, milk, flour, sugar, and vanilla into a smooth, thin batter.
  3. Carefully add the butter to the hot skillet and swirl until melted and foaming.

  6. Dust with powdered sugar, squeeze lemon over the top, and serve with fresh berries.

When to cook it

Dutch Baby Pancake takes about 30 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at breakfast. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
