Philly Cheesesteak
Philly Cheesesteak is American home cooking, eaten at dinner. On the plate it is the dish at the centre. Below is what usually sits beside it, what it does and does not contain, and what else to cook once you have made it.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb ribeye steak
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 8 provolone slices
- 2 onions
- 1 green bell pepper
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp neutral oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
How to cook it
- Freeze the ribeye for 20 minutes, then slice it as thinly as possible.
- Heat the butter in a skillet over medium and cook the sliced onions and pepper until soft and golden, about 8 minutes, then push to one side.
- Add the oil, the sliced beef, and garlic, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
- Mix the beef and vegetables together and divide into four piles in the pan.
- Lay provolone over each pile and let it melt, about 1 minute.
- Scoop each portion into a toasted hoagie roll and serve.
Serve it with
A American dinner is a plate rather than a single dish. These are the courses that normally sit beside Philly Cheesesteak, read from the same composition Dinejot builds a real meal from.

When to cook it
Philly Cheesesteak takes about 35 minutes from a cold stove to the table, and the cooking itself is a fair bit of work. It is eaten at dinner. Nothing in the calendar rules it out, so it is a year round dish.
